About

Hello,

I am John Matthew Newman (JMN). I record music, take photographs, and paint pictures.

From 2005 to 2009, I attended the University of Tennessee. Originally as a jazz guitar major, I switched to Music Theory/Composition my sophomore year and continued my studies with a focus in Electronic Music & Media. After graduation, I began recording under the name Johnny Newman and worked with producer Yanic Bercier to release two symphonic rock albums, More Than Ever (2011) and The Great Mistrial (2015). Afterwards, I continued writing instrumental projects under the name of Aeolian Jazz. Since 2020, I have been recording electronic music under my birth name, John Matthew Newman.

Annoyed with social media, I took an interest in analog photography to get back to creating tangible art & memories. I share some of my favorites here. Furthermore, I have begun a pursuit of painting (I can also turn to this when a photo does not turn out how I like). Currently, I am working with soft pastels and, likewise, will share my favorites here.

I can’t not create. While I will unwind with the occasional video game, I enjoy being inspired and prolific with my work.

Enjoy, and please feel free to reach out.
